You know - serving you and your teenagers out here in the mountains has to be the greatest privelege we could ever ask for! Thank you so very much for the chance to spend the summer with your most prized possessions!
As you may know - Camp Kivu is a self-supporting ministry. In other words, tuition dollars pay the expenses to run the camp.
What does that mean to you? Well, that means that unless something really goes crazy - we'll never ask you for money to cover operating costs out here at Camp Kivu. However, we do seek financial help for major improvements to the camp, or to expand Ahava Ministries/Camp Kivu in some dramatic new way.
So with that in mind - here are a few areas that we could certainly use your help with in 2009-2010.
2009 Fall Operations Fund
"Wait just a minute!" you might wonder, "didn't you just say that you wouldn't ask for operating funds unless something really went crazy?"
Yes, that's our position and in a normal year - you'd never hear us ask for operating funds. However, the summer of 2009 DID go really crazy. We had a flu outbreak which resulted in the refund of approximately $60,000 in tuition. That's a real hit to our bottom line. Also, we are transitioning the ministry from Kanakuk Kamps to Ahava Ministries/Camp Kivu this summer and we've incurred significant unforseen costs due to the transition.
We're praying that the flu will pass over us for the rest of the summer. Please pray along with us on that one! And would you consider a gift to help us through this period?
2010 Paintball and BMX Specialties Fund
Our campers have spoken - and we want to deliver! Paintball and BMX biking have been at the top of the list of cool activities your teenagers want to see at Camp Kivu. We have the skills to run paintball and BMX specialties that are both safe and fun. What we lack are the facilities!
We will add both a speedball course and a woodsball course - as well as the BMX course. In the middle, we'll need a shop to house and maintain all the gear. We expect this addition to cost approximately $200,000. So please consider a gift towards this much-requested project!
2010 Camper Scholarship Fund
As we expand Ahava Ministries and Camp Kivu - we expect to travel to areas not traditionally exposed to our deep Kanakuk Kamps heritage. We would love to scholarship a few teenagers in these areas as a way of exposing new families to Camp Kivu. Also, we know your teenagers have friends that they'd love to have join them at camp - but their friends simply cannot afford it.
This is a great way to help strengthen Camp Kivu and launch us into the future. Why not consider a donation of $2100 to pay for a new teenager to experience camp?

*Ahava Ministries has applied for 501(c)3 tax exempt status. Our application is currently being processed and we expect to receive our federal tax exempt status shortly - in plenty of time for the 2009 tax season.
